Sports Ministry to renovate Winneba Sports College

Pius Hadzide Deputy Sport MinisterDeputy Minister of Youth and Sports Pius Hadzide has reiterated the desire of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) to revive Sports in the country through the educational system.

His pronouncement represents a follow up to the promise made when Finance Minister Ken Ofori Attah read the budget earlier in the the year.

“In the area of sports development feasibility studies will be completed to facilitate the expansion of the infrastructure stock and transform the National Sports College into a Centre of Excellence, through Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements.

Additional efforts will be made to support other disciplines starting from our schools.” the finance Minister revealed.

Currently the Winneba Sports College which has been earmarked for a face-lift is encountering crisis both on the leadership and personnel front as well as on the infrastructural level.

The institution is performing way below its accepted capacity even in the face of the recent constraints.

Deputy Sports Minister Pius Hadzide insists that these plans remain firmly in their sights while they work in the back ground to secure the funding.

“We see school sports as one of the ways of developing sports in the country."

“We are also keen on retooling and resourcing the Winneba Sports College to enable us build the capacity of all important stakeholders,” he told Citi Sports.
